It’s clear that this is something Greene has been meaning to write for a while, as there are plenty of interesting nuggets of information that he drops along the way. There’s not much more to say about the music itself (classics have a way of doing that), which is why the scene-setting as to the whys and hows this record came to be is so invaluable. (Folded into this review of the classic album is a review of <a href=\"https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/magazine/mobb-deep-interview-2013\" target=\"_blank\">Mobb Deep</a>’s new one as well. Greene is very much not a fan. (It received a 4.9 out of ten, and a <a href=\"https://twitter.com/PRODIGYMOBBDEEP/statuses/454005765691293696\" target=\"_blank\">characteristically candid</a> response from Prodigy himself.))</p></div></div><div rbma-image-block=\"\" id=\"body-2\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-image alignment-center ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><figure class=\"figure\"> <img rbma-image=\"block.image\" class=\"figure__media ng-isolate-scope\" src=\"https://media.redbullmusicacademy.com/assets/601/305/605/best-music-journalism-04-mills.jpg?auto=format&amp;w=700\"> <!-- ngIf: block.credit || block.caption --> </figure></div><div rbma-text-block=\"\" id=\"body-3\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-text ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><div bind-compiled-html=\"block.text | markdown\"><p class=\"ng-scope\"><strong><a href=\"https://thump.vice.com/en_uk/words/the-man-from-tomorrow-an-interview-with-jeff-mills\" target=\"_blank\">The Man From Tomorrow: An Interview With Jeff Mills</a> (Lauren Martin, <em>Thump</em>)</strong></p>\n\n<p class=\"ng-scope\"><a href=\"https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/people/jeff-mills\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Mills</a> is not one to mince words, but a recent interview with Thump sees him at his most expansive. Mills’ vision for a future of techno seems potentially bleak throughout – something Lauren Martin points out. But in his explanation, he says that the “world we're racing towards now is that of the individual, and that could be because we need to go through this phase in order to reach a more relevant, substantial one.” It’s rare that you see an interview with a techno producer get this thought-provoking.</p></div></div><div rbma-image-block=\"\" id=\"body-4\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-image alignment-center ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><figure class=\"figure\"> <img rbma-image=\"block.image\" class=\"figure__media ng-isolate-scope\" src=\"https://media.redbullmusicacademy.com/assets/601/357/256/best-music-journalism-04-elvie.jpg?auto=format&amp;w=700\"> <!-- ngIf: block.credit || block.caption --> </figure></div><div rbma-text-block=\"\" id=\"body-5\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-text ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><div bind-compiled-html=\"block.text | markdown\"><p class=\"ng-scope\"><strong><a href=\"https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/13/magazine/blues.html?ref=magazine&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">The Ballad of Geshie &amp; Elvie</a> (John Jeremiah Sullivan, <em>New York Times</em>)</strong></p>\n\n<p class=\"ng-scope\">John Jeremiah Sullivan is <a href=\"https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/magazine/best-music-journalism-02-2014\" target=\"_blank\">no stranger to this series</a>, but we would be remiss if we didn’t highlight his work again. While the premise may not seem like much, Sullivan’s search for two early 20th century blues women is a story told with style and grace. It doesn’t hurt that the New York Times went all out in the presentation either: The videos throughout are essential in understanding why Sullivan spent so long pursuing this.</p></div></div><div rbma-image-block=\"\" id=\"body-6\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-image alignment-center ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><figure class=\"figure\"> <img rbma-image=\"block.image\" class=\"figure__media ng-isolate-scope\" src=\"https://media.redbullmusicacademy.com/assets/601/141/147/best-music-journalism-04-rawkus.jpg?auto=format&amp;w=700\"> <!-- ngIf: block.credit || block.caption --> </figure></div><div rbma-text-block=\"\" id=\"body-7\" block=\"block\" class=\"block block-text ng-scope ng-isolate-scope\" ng-class=\"paramsClasses\"><div bind-compiled-html=\"block.text | markdown\"><p class=\"ng-scope\"><strong><a href=\"https://myspace.com/discover/editorial/2014/4/16/the-oral-history-of-rawkus-records\" target=\"_blank\">The Oral History of Rawkus Records</a> (Phillip Mlynar, <em>MySpace</em>)</strong></p>\n\n<p class=\"ng-scope\">Backpackers unite: Phillip Mlynar’s epic oral history of the Rawkus label has almost everyone you’d want to hear from on the subject (El-P, Talib Kweli) and a whole host of insiders (PR and<strong> </strong>A&amp;R types).
